The Legality of the Arya Samaj Marriage

The Vedas, which are the oldest Hindu scriptures, are to be reinstated as revealed truth, according to Arya Samaj. Founder of the Arya Samaj was Swami Dayanand Saraswati. Its legality is derived from the requirements of the Hindu Marriage Act of 1955 and the Arya Samaj Marriage Validation Act of 1937. The Arya Samaj will grant a certificate of marriage to a groom who is at least 21 years old and a bride who is at least 18 years old. Any Arya Samaj temple will issue the marriage certificate following the completion of the ceremony in accordance with the Vedic traditions. Is the marriage certificate for Arya Samaj legitimate?

The marriage is not legally registered just because an Arya samaj marriage certificate was produced. After receiving the certificate from Arya Samaj, the marriage must be registered in accordance with the relevant laws at the office of the sub-divisional magistrate.

According to a story in India Today, if the bride and groom are both Hindus, the Hindu Marriage Act applies, whereas other religions may require the Special Marriage Act. However, the Supreme Court recently commented on the invalid status of Arya Samaj marriage certificates, and the validity of such weddings is still up for debate before the top court.
